If you follow my channel, you’d know that I love DIY projects and that I’ve recently been absolutely obsessed with TikTok. I compiled a few of my top 5 favorite clothing DIYs, and I wanted to see if they actually work and if they’d come out cute enough to actually wear. Scroll down to see how they turned out for me, and whether these DIYs are still my favorites.

1. Bleach Tie- dye Matching Set – @vinaphan

For this DIY, you’ll need a pair of black leggings, a matching black sports bra and some bleach. I made sure to get similar fabric for the clothes so that they match since bleach reacts differently on different material. I decided to use Clorox clinging bleach gel toilet bowl cleaner instead of bleach so that I don’t have to mix bleach and water.

Normally, it is recommended to scrunch up your clothing and rubber band it before tie-dying, but I recommend skipping the rubber bands. Just wet the fabric, scrunch it up in different sections and squeeze some of the bleach on top. Let it sit until you can see it change color.

Rinse off the bleach. If you think it needs more bleach in different areas you can scrunch it up again, position it differently, and repeat the process.

When it’s finished and rinsed off, put them in the washing machine on their own so that any leftover bleach won’t ruin any other clothing. Overall, it worked out really well. I give it 4/5 stars, and totally recommend trying it out.

2. Baby Clothes into Crop Tops – @megantakamatsuu

This seemed like a really simple, cute, and silly idea that I really wanted to try. All you’ll need is some baby onesies in the largest size (usually size 24 months).

Fold it in half to get a straight cut and cut it above the leg holes. The onesies were very stretchy, but it did not work. It was not a flattering fit at all, it hurt my arms, and was too small. It did fit Ziya nicely though!

Do NOT waste your time on this DIY. Just buy a regular crop top or a regular tank top in your size and cut it to be a crop top. 0/5 stars for me.

3. Add an Elastic Waistband to Jeans – @camrynspelts

I always seem to have a problem with the fit of my jeans. They usually fit really well in front and on the thighs but there’s a lot of extra space around the waistline, which causes it to bunch up in the back and create a large gap. Usually I’d pinch the back and sew it together, but I wanted to try this quick hack to see if it’ll be a better fix.

For this DIY, you’ll need:

•          A pair of jeans

•          Safety pin

•          Scissors

•          Needle and thread

•          Piece of elastic

Measure the elastic so that it fits around your waist (I measured and cut it at the first 2 belt loops in the front so that its nice and tight). Starting at the first belt loop, create a “tunnel” through the waistband by cutting a small hole on the inside layer of your jeans. Do the same on the other side.

Attach a safety pin to one side of the elastic and use it to thread it through the inside of the waistband of the jeans. The safety pin will help you guide the elastic through. You should end up with a bit of elastic sticking out on either side.

Sew it down on each side using really tight stitches. I stitched through the bottom layer of fabric so that it doesn’t show on the other side. This DIY worked SO well. It did what it was supposed to and fixed a problem that I always had with my jeans. I can actually see myself using this trick on multiple occasion – 5/5 stars for this one!

4. Bleach a Pattern onto Jeans @samanthaa.nicole

Materials:

•          Clorox bleach gel and bleach pen

•          Pair of high waisted jeans

•          Stencil materials (to create your own)

•          Cricut machine (to create a stencil from your computer)

•          Logo image

If you have a Cricut machine you can print your own stencil. If not, you can create your own stencil using the stencil materials above and cut it out using an Xacto knife. Printer paper does NOT hold up with the bleach, so be sure to use thick material for the stencil.

Before starting on my jeans, I tested it out on a denim mask that my mom made herself. I started with the bleach pen and used a paint sponge to press it in. I also tested out the toilet bleach gel on an old t-shirt and found that it actually worked so much better. It bleaches really well but will start to bleed if left on for too long.

Put something underneath the jeans so that it doesn’t ruin the floor. I also cut up some cardboard to stick inside the pant legs to prevent the bleach from bleeding through to the other side.

Line up the edge of the pattern/stencil with the seam of the jeans (make sure you don’t put the stencil backwards). You can use painters’ tape to hold it in place. Be sure to apply only a thin of bleach at a time to prevent leaking, even if it doesn’t seem like it is working. Try to move quickly so that the whole leg can dry evenly.

At first, the bleach wasn’t showing up that much for me, so I used a blow dryer – it showed up right away, and the heat prevented the bleach from bleeding around the edges.

After they were washed, they turned out really cool. It was the most difficult DIY that I’ve done so far but they were so cute, and I would definitely wear them. 5/5 stars for these jeans.

5. Bedazzled Sneakers – @ctg.aubrey

For this DIY, I used a pair of Nike Air Maxes that I’ve been meaning to fix up for a while. The soles turned yellow when I was cleaning them, so I wanted to do something to cover it up.

I bought these Swarovski crystals from Amazon and these to use as a backup since I wasn’t sure how many I’ll need. They actually looked really pretty, and the first set was enough for what I wanted to do.

You’ll also need to have some E6000 glue (it comes with a precision point applicator to minimize any mess) and an applicator pen to actually apply the crystals. The crystal applicator definitely worked, and I wouldn’t have been able to do this project without it.

I started by applying a small amount of glue on the Nike check and used the crystal applicator to pick up and place the crystals. You’ll want to start with smaller crystals and choose larger ones as you progress. Once that was done, you can do the same thing on the sole. It took about 30 mins to fill up the Nike check, and a few hours for the sole.

All in all, I’d give this DIY 4/5 stars. It’s definitely cute and definitely easy to do but takes forever. I would recommend giving it a try if you have some extra time on your hands.
